Established in 1906, the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) is the recognized technical and educational authority on illumination. The IES is an accredited Standards Development Organization (SDO) under American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved procedures. It correlates research, investigations, and discussions to guide lighting experts and laypersons via research-and consensus based lighting recommendations. It is dedicated to improving the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public. For over one hundred years the Society has been a forum for the exchange of ideas and communicating information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers through a variety of programs, publications, and services.
The strength of the IES is its diversified membership: engineers, architects, designers, manufacturers, educators, students, contractors, distributors, utility personnel, and scientists. The Illuminating Engineering Society’s Annual Conference brings together these people to share inspirations, strengthen mutual ties and create new bonds. It endeavors to bring experiences, education, networking and inspiration together to foster personal and career growth. The conference provides a range of educational programs, including workshops, seminars, immersive experiences, tours, networking, and paper and poster presentations on the art, design, science, and research of lighting relevant to lighting professionals, educators, and peripheral design disciplines.
The IES Annual Conference provides tabletop exhibition opportunities for those who want to leverage the professional conference audience. The depth of conference attendance and media coverage turn the event into a unique trade show for lighting manufacturers to enhance brand presence and the new product exposure. Presentations and panel discussions along with breakout sessions allow attendees to gather in a smaller setting to participate in seminar and paper presentations.
