Global leader in smart lighting control, Casambi, is excited to announce the launch of new complimentary online training courses and its latest certification, both designed to make Casambi’s educational offerings more accessible and effective for a broader range of professionals in the lighting industry.

Streamlined Training

In response to growing demand for more streamlined and flexible training solutions, Casambi has simplified its training offerings. Our updated, in-depth courses are now available online at no cost, offering an easier way for individuals to explore Casambi’s innovative technology. This new approach provides introductions to Casambi, the technology behind it, and our native hardware, along with detailed explanations and demonstrations of the features and functions available through the original Casambi app.

The online training modules cover additional essential topics including installation, range testing, commissioning, and offer an overview of Casambi Pro for PC and iPad. The courses are designed for flexible self-study, allowing users to complete them in one session or in bite-sized pieces. Users can repeat the courses as often as needed and skip already familiar information to focus on areas of interest.

In-person Training Opportunities

Casambi continues to offer our Enhanced face-to-face training course. This includes practical programming opportunities and possibilities for networking with industry experts. Additionally, we can discuss customized training solutions for customers who wish to invest in training tailored to their specific needs.

The Casambi Commissioning Competence Certification (4C) remains our comprehensive 2-day in-person assessment. The 4C certification is designed for highly experienced individuals and includes extensive programming tasks, a multi-network commissioning exercise, and a written test.

Introducing Casambi’s 3C Certification

The new Casambi Configuration Capability (3C) certification is an online assessment that evaluates an individual’s understanding of Casambi’s primary functions and their ability to handle common wireless network configurations. This lower-level certification – considered a foundational step below the advanced 4C certification – is ideal for individuals with a moderate level of experience and focuses on the practical aspects of installation and programming using Casambi’s native hardware and the original Casambi app.

The 3C certification includes a questionnaire and a programming exercise, designed to test and validate essential knowledge required for typical Casambi projects. This certification offers a valuable credential for those looking to enhance their skills and demonstrate their competency in Casambi configurations.

“We’re thrilled to offer this revised training approach and new certification – both make Casambi training more accessible and effective,” said Rob Hutson, Head of Global Training at Casambi. “These will help professionals at various experience levels quickly and flexibly enhance their knowledge and demonstrate their proficiency in Casambi configurations, while also giving us the flexibility to deliver tailored, value-added training.”

We announce today the public release of Casambi Pro, an innovative and powerful new planning and commissioning tool tailored for ambitious lighting projects.

What is Casambi Pro?

Casambi Pro is a game-changing solution designed specifically for lighting installations featuring complex, automated control systems that incorporate schedules, sensors, and switches. This cutting-edge tool is exceptionally well-suited for large sites with repetitive layouts, offering enhanced efficiency and a significant reduction in on-site technical configurations.

How does Casambi Pro work?

With Casambi Pro, lighting project configuration enters a new era, as most of the programming can now be executed offsite. This empowers commissioning engineers to manage intricate settings in advance, providing greater control over the final outcome and ensuring a focused and user-friendly experience.

The Casambi Pro suite consists of two components: The Casambi Pro Windows PC software for project planning and programming, and the Casambi Pro iPad software for on-site commissioning. The latter is used to easily identify Casambi-enabled devices onsite and seamlessly pair them using Bluetooth to a Casambi Pro project.

“The beta testing phase has concluded, and we are thrilled to announce the first, official public release of Casambi Pro. This represents a significant milestone for us as a user experience-focused company. Casambi Pro simplifies the commissioning process like never before – transforming what once took hours onsite into a nearly instantaneous process,” stated Kari Mettälä, the CEO of Casambi.

“As a software tool, Casambi Pro will continue to evolve in response to market demands. Regular updates will introduce new key features such as scene setting, dimming, tunable white lighting, and seamless control input integration. We see this first public release as just the beginning of a very exciting new chapter,” said Timo Korhonen, Head of UX Design at Casambi.

Global smart lighting control company Casambi announced today the launch of three new product variants – CBU-TED-LR, CBU-ASD-LR and Casambi Xpress-LR – to offer long-range radio modes for robust wireless communication in vast spaces, outdoor applications, and certain complex lighting installations.

New chip, new long-range products for Casambi

In 2022, Casambi introduced a new chip, the CBM-003, which enables new radio modes and longer ranges of up to approximately 200 meters (650 feet) in real-world applications. Based upon Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF52840 SoC, this module offers lower energy consumption, greater memory for Flash & RAM, and supports the latest Bluetooth 5. Specification to offer long-range and high throughput modes. This has now been incorporated into three Casambi Bluetooth Units.

CBU-ASD-LR

The CBU-ASD-LR is a Bluetooth-controlled, long-range control unit for any type of driver with 0-10V, 1-10V, or DALI dimming interface. This is available with either analog 0-10V (and 1-10V) or digital Standalone DALI control interface. With standalone DALI output, the CBU-ASD-LR acts both as a controller and power supply, making it possible to connect directly to an LED driver with a DALI interface. With this unit, it’s possible to implement multi-channel lighting systems with adjustable color (RGB and RGBW) or color temperature (CCT), while keeping the wiring and the number of components to a minimum.

CBU-TED-LR

The CBU-TED-LR is a Bluetooth-controlled, long-range trailing edge dimmer for dimmable incandescent, halogen, LED lamps, and LED control gear. With this unit, any dimmable load can be easily converted to become a part of a Casambi mesh radio network. It can be installed behind a traditional wall switch, inside a luminaire, or into a ceiling outlet box. The CBU-TED-LR can also be converted to a mains-activated sensor device. When acting as a presence sensor, this device provides presence information to the mesh network when it is powered up.

Casambi Xpress-LR

The Casambi Xpress-LR is a Bluetooth-controlled, long-range user interface. This switch can be kept wherever the user needs it, providing direct access to all the important Casambi lighting control functionalities. It offers all the basic functions: Dim up, dim down, change color temperature in steps of 25 Kelvin, change indirect/direct ratio, control individual or luminaire groups, recall scenes and animations. Additionally, smarter functions, such as presets and multipurpose buttons, can be configured in the Casambi App.

It’s with great pleasure that we announce the availability of new long-range variants of our CBUs and wireless switch. If you are new to the idea, these are incredibly good options for introducing Casambi wireless capabilities to luminaires. This is about providing easy-to-deploy solutions for novel hybrid applications – vast sports facilities, parking lots, multi-building campuses, and more robust indoor/outdoor installations. — Kari Mettälä, Casambi CEO
