Are you seeking to revolutionize headlamp design with a sleek and distinctive appearance, tailored for your main light functions? Look no further, for the solution lies within the innovative Cylindric Lens Array (CLA) technology.

Introducing CLA, a game-changer that enables slim, vertical-oriented headlamp signatures even during nighttime with remarkable precision. With a mere 10 mm light exit height, it empowers you to achieve narrow outputs. Whether your preference leans towards horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or a captivating fusion of these orientations, CLA offers a world of possibilities by leveraging standardized components to realize your vision.

Within the CLA ecosystem, three fundamental module components work in perfect harmony: the Printed Circuit Board (PCB), primary optics, and customer-specific secondary optics. While the PCB and primary optics are standard components, the secondary optics provide you with the freedom to create a unique and tailored headlamp signature for a similar day and nighttime appearance. Depending on the range of functions, the individual modules can be combined and arranged to create the signature required for the main light functions.

Scalability is another remarkable feature of CLA. The secondary optics remain consistent while the modules behind vary. This means you can effortlessly offer headlamp variants, ranging from low and high beam to adaptive driving beam (ADB) functionalities all of which have one thing in common - their unmistakable signature.
At this year's busworld 2023 in Brussels, the automotive supplier HELLA, who operates under the umbrella brand FORVIA, will be presenting modular concepts as well as specially developed, customer-specific innovations for city buses and coaches.

The key points in short
  • IntroSustainable and powerful: headlamps for new Marcopolo G8 series
  • Modular, durable and striking: full LED rear lamps
  • SlimLine Bi-LED headlights: first rectangular light module

They provide more safety and comfort, sustainability and brand differentiation and thus serve key market requirements in the transport sector. Held every two years, busworld is the world's largest and oldest trade exhibition for the bus industry. HELLA will be present there from 7 to 12 October 2023 in Hall 6, Stand 634.

Sustainable and powerful: Headlamps for new Marcopolo G8 series

One of the highlights of HELLA's presence at the trade fair is LED headlights, which HELLA has put into series production for the new G8 coach series of the Brazilian bus manufacturer Marcopolo. So far, the headlamp has only been presented in the South American region; at busworld 2023 it will therefore celebrate its global premiere. The headlamp features HELLA's largest one-piece LED reflector. This makes for a striking appearance, as the headlamp is not composed of several individual parts, but appears to be cast from one piece. Special features are also the efficiency and luminosity, which are particularly noticeable when driving at night: It reduces driver fatigue and thus increases safety, while glare for oncoming vehicles is reduced by around 80 percent. In addition, the LED headlamp is extremely sustainable: Compared to the conventional halogen version, it reduces the CO2 footprint by around a third over its entire service life.

Modular, durable and striking: Full LED rear lights

At Busworld 2023, HELLA will also present full-LED combination rear lamps used by a German premium bus manufacturer. On the one hand, they show how good security can look: Large in size and at the same time energy-efficient, the combination rearlight with five light functions is visible from afar and sets striking design elements. The LED combination rearlight also implements a modular and thus economical concept approach. Customer- or brand-specific differentiation is ensured in particular by the different colour schemes of the combination rearlight as well as by different printings on the light curtain.

SlimLine Bi-LED headlights: first rectangular light module

The SlimLine Bi-LED headlamp is not only powerful and robust, but above all sets new standards in design language. As the first rectangular light module in the HELLA portfolio, it follows a highly topical design trend that is also becoming increasingly popular in the bus sector. In addition to these new distinctive design options, the headlamp bezels can also be customised in shape and colour or branded with a logo. Thanks to its excellent performance, the light of the SlimLine module, which combines low beam and high beam headlamps in a single headlamp module, is very similar to daylight and thus increases safety and comfort, especially during long journeys in coaches.

Lippstadt, 18. July 2023. HELLA, the automotive supplier operating under the umbrella brand FORVIA, and the luxury car manufacturer Porsche, have, in close cooperation with other partners, launched the world's first high-resolution headlamp based on matrix LED technology. With over 32,000 individually controllable pixels per headlamp, it raises automotive lighting technology to a new level. The digital headlamp system SSL | HD is now available for the first time in the new Porsche Cayenne as optional extra equipment.

"Together with Porsche and our other partners, we have realised top-class lighting technology for the new Cayenne," says Yves Andres, Managing Director Lighting at HELLA. "With our digital headlamp system SSL | HD, we create the best visibility for the end user in every traffic situation. In this way, we actively increase safety in road traffic and further enhance driving comfort."

HELLA's SSL | HD technology, which received the prestigious CES 2023 Innovation Award at the end of last year, is an evolutionary further development and significant miniaturisation of matrix LED systems. Compared to conventional headlamps, the space required for the light module has been reduced by up to 75 percent. In the new Porsche Cayenne, two high-resolution LED chips, not even the size of a fingernail, generate over 32,000 pixels per headlamp. The pixels are controlled by one electronic control unit for each headlamp, which HELLA also developed as a system supplier. In this context, so-called GMSL interfaces are used for the first time due to the high data volumes. In order to control two light sources per headlamp with one control unit, HELLA has also developed new algorithms that allow the light distribution to be calculated in real time

On this basis, the high-resolution headlamp system realises not only further improvements to already established functions such as adaptive, glare-free high beam, but also the most sophisticated new lighting functionalities. For example, on the motorway or at narrow construction sites, the optimal lane can be projected dynamically onto the road to provide the driver with additional support in safe vehicle guidance.

The headlamps for the Porsche Cayenne are developed and produced at the Company headquarters in Lippstadt (Germany). Series production of the SSL | HD module takes place on almost fully automated production lines. "Never before have we put headlamps with such high demands on functionality, precision and reliability into series production. What applies to the headlamp module itself therefore also applies to its production technology: we are taking automotive lighting technology to the next level," says Managing Director Lighting, Yves Andres.

Porsche has thoroughly refined its successful luxury SUV. The 2024 Cayenne debuts with a highly digitalized display and control interior concept, new chassis technology and innovative high-tech features. “It’s one of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche,” says Michael Schätzle, Vice-President Product Line Cayenne.

High-definition HD Matrix Design LED headlights illuminate the road with a clear visual signature, an air quality system filters pollutants from the cabin, and for the first time in the Cayenne, an optional display for the front passenger can be ordered to stream videos during a trip – taking inspiration from the Taycan. With its extensively upgraded design and more powerful family of engines, the Cayenne emphasizes its ambition to be the most engaging car in its segment.

Matrix LED Headlights are now standard equipment in the new Cayenne. HD-Matrix LED Headlights are a new optional feature. With two high-definition modules and more than 32,000 pixels per headlamp, their innovative technology blocks out the light of the high beam for other road users, with pixel accuracy, so as not to dazzle them. The brightness of the modules can be regulated in more than 1,000 steps depending on the driving situation. Customised light modes increase safety and comfort in different driving situations.

The new HD matrix technology adds yet another highly efficient component. Because the HD matrix headlights only activate the pixels that are actually needed at any given moment, they consume considerably less energy that other high-resolution systems, while the amount of light remains the same. The driver benefits from the highly flexible light that the new development makes possible thanks to extremely homogeneous illumination. In addition, there are innovative functions such as lane illumination, construction and narrow-lane light and adaptive motorway high-beam lights.
