mwConnect (formerly McWong International), a leading innovator in wireless mesh technology, announced today that three products from its SIG-qualified TruBlu™ Bluetooth® mesh wireless control platform were accepted into the 2024 IES Progress Report. The awards were announced at the IES Annual Conference in New York on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

The mission of the IES Progress Committee is to keep in touch with developments in the art and science of lighting throughout the world and prepare a yearly report of achievements for the Society. Acceptance is based on an impartial judging process used by the committee to evaluate each submission on its uniqueness, innovation and significance to the lighting industry.

Extreme Range Outdoor Bluetooth SIG Compliant Mesh Controller​

The controller is the first Bluetooth NLC certified long-range device, engineered for optimal performance over long distances (>1000 ft) to create a more robust mesh network. The device is also DALI D4i-certified and Zhaga Book 18 compliant to maximize plug-and-play interoperability across lighting systems.

Indoor Bluetooth NLC ZBD Sensor-Controller​

Bluetooth NLC-certified, this sensor controller supports multiple standards for interoperability (DALI D4i-certified, Zhaga Book 20 compliant) in a form factor designed for luminaire level lighting control (LLLC). It offers occupancy detection, daylight harvesting, and grouping for flexibility in interior application layouts.

Dual Tech ceiling mounted wireless mesh sensor​

An industry-first, this dual tech occupancy sensor is also Bluetooth NLC certified for wireless mesh applications. By combining PIR and ultrasonic detection with wireless connectivity, this workhorse device provides a solid foundation for successful wireless mesh control in many interior applications.

This workhorse occupancy sensor provides two detection technologies—Passive infrared (PIR) and ultrasonic—to ensure robust performance in a wide range of applications.

Available for Bluetooth NLC or Casambi mesh applications, the sensor is programmed via PC-based software or a mobile app. The first such commercially available device, the sensor provides additional flexibility to designers for creating effective wireless mesh control networks in commercial spaces such as conference rooms, open office spaces, multi-purpose rooms, cafeterias, and more.

The Bluetooth Networked Lighting Control (NLC) standard, introduced in late 2023, is the first full-stack standard for wireless lighting control. Specifically designed to meet the scale, reliability, and security demands required in commercial settings, Bluetooth NLC enables multi-vendor interoperable wireless lighting control systems and unlocks the potential for mass adoption of wireless lighting control. By adding standard specifications to the individual device layer on top of the Bluetooth mesh (communication layer) and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) (radio layer), Bluetooth NLC standardizes performance and functionality operations for six device profiles: occupancy sensor, ambient light sensor, energy monitor, scene selector, dimming control, and lightness controller. mwConnect’s new certification means the company offers the most comprehensive listing for Bluetooth NLC, with products in all six profiles. Bluetooth maintains a searchable database for qualifying products.

McWong International recently announced that its Bluetooth® mesh wireless lighting control solution has been awarded the Prototype Phase Lighting Prize (L-Prize) by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The award was announced on October 25, 2023.

The L Prize, first awarded by the DOE in 2011, is designed to advance the U.S. clean energy economy for next-generation LED lighting, encouraging innovators and researchers to engage in advanced lighting system development that leads to transformative designs, products, and impact. Because the controller is D4i compliant, the system can also provide vital energy and performance information from each luminaire. Compliant with the Bluetooth mesh specification, the system can be easily scaled over time by adding new Bluetooth mesh devices, re-configured via broadcast signal, or upgraded via over the air update.
