The transformative effects of Human Centric Lighting meet premium design for the very first time, showcased by Secto Design and Signify at Design Post Köln during Orgatec, the international trade fair for the future of work. This exceptional combination brings the benefits of daylight to indoor environments, enhancing well-being and performance, while incorporating the warmth of wood into workplace design.

The positive impact of daylight is increasingly acknowledged and supported by scientific research, but at the same time less and less available in our indoor-centred lifestyle. The Philips BioUP technology from Signify tackles this contradiction by increasing the biological impact of light to balance the natural rhythm of our bodies. It enhances the LED spectrum with cyan light, without the harsh blue tones commonly associated with artificial light. This lighting solution integrates a Philips LED into the elegant Owalo pendant lamp by Secto Design, resulting in a perfect fusion of cutting-edge technology with handcrafted design.

The key to ultimate well-being is to align your sleep-wake cycle, which starts during the day. “To feel well, it’s important to sleep well. To sleep well, you need daylight to sync your sleep-awake-cycle” says Jonas Modigh, Business Development Manager Nordics at Signify. The Philips BioUP technology does just that, making it a vital addition to workspaces. This alliance of advanced lighting technology and thoughtfuldesign improves not only well-being, but also employee engagement, mood, and productivity. Harmoniously designed workspaces are also known to attract and retain top talent.

A brand-new model, the Kumulo pendant, brings an eagerly awaited addition to the Secto Design lighting collection. Inspired by snow-crowned trees and summery cumulus clouds, the lamp was revealed for the first time in public at the 3daysofdesign festival held in Copenhagen in June.

Eye-catching, yet lightweight and airy. The idea of the undulating shape of the Kumulo pendant first emerged in designer Seppo Koho’s mind during a trip to snowy Lapland and came to life later under a midsummer sky, filled with puffy clouds.

“Kumulo can easily become the focal point of a room. It provides a warm, soft light that reflects the shades of the birch wood it is made of.” the award-winning designer and architect describes. Like all Secto Design pendants, Kumulo can be used individually, or by combining multiple pieces to create fascinating installations in both private and public interiors.

Sustainability is a core value for Secto Design, that only introduces new designs to its offering after careful consideration. Kumulo marks a milestone for the brand as it is the 30th model of its lighting collection launched in1999. All of the previous lamps are still in production, too.

Timeless design is not the only asset of Secto Design lamps, which are crafted by hand at the company’s ownfactory in Heinola, Finland. The family-owned business uses PEFC-certified local birch as its main material, runs its local production with renewable energy, and aims for carbon-negative production within the next five years. With careful attention to quality, the lamps are made to last from generation to generation.
