License plate lights are used to Illuminate the rear registration plate from the top or sides. These lights come in a variety of configurations, most of them are recessed into the rear bumper. They’re always white lights and should be so designed and placed as to render the registration plate clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. They must not obscure the characters and numbers on the plate.
