Watson IoT Platform (WIoTP) is an end-to-end, fully-managed cloud service offering that integrates a bundled set of preselected services to form a public, multitenant SaaS solution on the IBM Cloud framework. In the WIoTP using it's dashboard you must define Device or Gateway Type and register the Devices or Gateway itself which comprises the IoT devices (like consumer appliances, badge receiver, sensor data, etc.) that are being used in the real-world scenario.

IBM Watson IoT Platform connects devices, ingests device data and transforms that data into meaningful insights. Watson IoT Platform and its additional add on services enable Clients to capture data for devices, equipment, and machines, to explore this data, and to discover insights on this data that drive better decision making. Watson IoT Platform provides a pre-integrated foundation for industry solution and Client applications built on IoT data.

IBM Watson IoT Platform is made up of three fundamental services: Connection Service, Analytics Service, and Blockchain Service. All three services have a nonproduction package for proofs of concept and pilot work, as well as a production package for full production deployment.

Connect your device, send data to our cloud, set up and manage your devices, use APIs to connect apps to your device data. Simply register and connect your device, be it a sensor, a gateway, or something else, to Watson IoT Platform and start sending data securely up to the cloud using the open, lightweight MQTT messaging protocol. You can set up and manage your devices using your online dashboard or our secure APIs, so that your apps can access and use your live and historical data.

Several IBM Watson IoT Platform service plans are available to help your organization meet its IoT needs. With a free Lite plan you can try out Watson IoT Platform with a limited number of devices and transactions. With different paid plan options, you can extend the service capacity and features.

The IBM Watson IoT Platform is a service that is available in IBM Cloud. You can access your Watson IoT Platform organization dashboard by using your IBM Cloud dashboard. As an IBM Cloud service, Watson IoT Platform can be integrated with other services that are hosted on IBM Cloud. Details of specific third-party service integrations can be found in the External Service Integrations topic.

Instances of the Watson IoT Platform can be created in the IBM Cloud dashboard. The Watson IoT Platform can be integrated with other IBM Cloud services and accessed by using the IBM Cloud dashboard, however, Watson IoT Platform does not run on IBM Cloud hardware, which allows for continual data collection by your Watson IoT Platform service.

IBM Watson IoT Platform – Advanced Security has all the features and capabilities of the IBM Watson IoT Platform while also offering additional security capabilities. This option provides dashboard visualization of IoT risks and exposures. It enables definition of policy for management of potential IoT risks and security events including malicious external attacks and compromised IoT Devices.
