Horticulture Lighting

Light is the single most important environmental variable that affects plant biology. Plants are autotrophs that evolved the ability to respond to different frequencies and intensities of light. They have a complex network of photoreceptors that use light signals as cues to modify their biology in order to adapt and survive. The goal of horticulture lighting is to stimulate photoreceptors that drive photosynthetic activities, trigger photomorphogenic responses, or mediate photoperiodic signals. Horticulture lighting with LED grow lights enables cultivation of plants to a level of control that was previously impossible. LED grow lights produce spectrally effective radiation to orchestrate and manipulate the growth and development stages of plants. Applying an adequate flux of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), plus providing photons in the spectral regions that drive photomorphogenesis, photoperiodism and phototropism, makes it possible to promote plant growth, improve crop quality and yield, and reduce growing cycle.
