Exciting update! lightly has proudly secured the prestigious L-prize! We were
announced one of the six winners in Phase Two of the DOE Lighting Prize (L-Prize®) competition for its low-carbon, architectural-grade linear luminaire, utilizing locally sourced materials grown in the United States. The high-efficacy luminaire is made of novel, biodegradable materials, using wood, hemp, and wool as alternatives to plastic and metal. The localized production/supply chain uses poplar harvested in the area, and a declare label provides material transparency.
A heartfelt thank you to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for acknowledging our dedication to eco-friendly, biodegradable luminaire designs. Special recognition to the visionary designers propelling sustainable innovation in our industry. Kudos to the incredible team at lightly for this well-deserved achievement. Here's to continued success!
The L-Prize® competition is designed to catalyze transformative LED lighting innovation, products, and impact. It is primed to unlock the full potential of LED technology—to combine high luminaire efficacy with exceptional lighting quality, data-driven control and functionality, and sustainable design and construction for the future of illumination in commercial buildings. In addition to these technical innovations, the L-Prize also prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion in how luminaires or lighting systems can benefit communities that have been historically disadvantaged.
“The winning prototypes represent ground-breaking innovation, not only in energy efficiency, data-driven connectivity, and environmental sustainability, but also prioritizing communities that get overlooked when we roll out new prototypes. These innovators are leading the way,” said Mandy Mahoney, Director of the Building Technologies Office at DOE.
