We are thrilled to announce that the REWE MEET & GREET project has won the iF Design Award! At REWE Headquarters Region West in Hürth close to Cologne, an exceptional transformation of a 1980s-built meeting and conference zone has taken place. The goal? A prestigious, sustainable, and flexible design that breathes new life into existing spaces.
Modernizing existing buildings is one of the most crucial steps towards a sustainable future in the construction industry. The REWE MEET & GREET project at the REWE Headquarters Region West in Hürth close to Cologne, Germany is a prime example of how a space from the 1980s can be transformed into a modern, flexible, and inspiring environment. The goal was not only to redefine functionality but also to create a prestigious and inviting atmosphere. Under the motto “Meet & Greet”, the redesigned area now features individual themed zones for meetings, coworking, and events. Flexibility and sustainability were at the heart of this transformation, ensuring the space remains adaptable for future needs.
To enhance the urban character of the space, the suspended grid ceiling was removed, exposing the ribbed structure and increasing the perceived height of the room. A key design highlight is our Liquid Line luminaire, produced and installed in the shape of a Carrera racetrack. Project Manager Thomas Bitz freom REWE deliberately chose soft, organic, yet dynamic forms to contrast with the linear architecture of the room. The curved flow of the Liquid Line breaks the strict geometry of the space, adding movement and energy while reinforcing the project’s modern and flexible concept. More than just a lighting element, it acts as a visual guide, drawing the eye upward and emphasizing the spaciousness created by the exposed ceiling. The interplay of light and form ensures an engaging spatial experience, while the adaptable illumination settings create different atmospheres tailored to meetings, coworking, and events.
- Sustainable modernisation instead of new construction
- Flexible spatial concepts for meetings, coworking & events
- High-end lighting & acoustic design for ultimate comfort
A special thank you to Christoph Willim from Lightnet for his excellent project support, and to the entire Lightnet team responsible for the design and production of the Liquid Line.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Thomas Bitz from REWE Markt GmbH, brandherm + krumrey and the entire project team for this outstanding achievement! 👏 We look forward to further projects together!

The name Serenity stands for peace and serenity – values that can be felt in every fibre of our Serenity lighting family. Developed by textile designer Aleksandra Gaca, the 3D acoustic fabric impresses with its technical sophistication and visual elegance. With over 90% sound absorption, Serenity creates a pleasant acoustic atmosphere and is ideal for offices, conference rooms or restaurants.
The precision lenses integrated into the fabric structure provide glare-free lighting with a UGR < 19. Serenity is available in three geometric shapes and four colour variants – both as a lighting element and as a pure acoustic element.
A journey in light and texture
The 3D textiles that Aleksandra Gaca designed for Serenity form the centrepiece of the lighting collection. The Ondo fabric, made from high-quality Trevira CS, is characterised by soft wave patterns and an unmistakable feel. Its three-dimensional structures interact naturally with light and shadow and create a fascinating dynamic that suggests movement and vibrancy - an effect that is emphasised even more when integrated into lighting objects.
Perfect balance between tradition and innovation
The decision in favour of Ondo as the material of choice was based not only on its stylish effect, but also on its outstanding acoustic properties. Thanks to its 3D structure, the surface of the acoustic element is significantly increased. Over 90% of the sound that hits it is absorbed, thus significantly reducing reverberation and improving room acoustics.
The four colour variants – Cream, Taupe, Green and Anthracite – harmonise with the design language of the luminaire and give rooms a calm, elegant atmosphere.
—Francis Vercaemst from Casalis, manufacturer of ONDOIn her design, Aleksandra Gaca combines the rich heritage of weaving with the latest technology. With Serenity, her vision comes to life: textiles that inspire, enhance rooms and create a perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
From nature to Serenity
The development of the Serenity acoustic luminaire was a creative process that spanned several years and was largely inspired by nature. From diatoms in the deep sea, tree structures and mushroom caps to the porous surface of the moon - the Lightnet design team led by architect Magdalena and luminaire developer Konrad took these influences and translated them into a minimalist yet expressive design that brings the tranquillity of nature indoors.
After numerous tests and experiments with materials, light integration, suspension systems, shaping and proportions, a luminaire collection was created that combines functional elegance and natural harmony with its three basic geometric shapes - the Serenity circle, Serenity square and Serenity rectangle.
This brochure tells the story of our Serenity family of acoustic luminaires – the design concept, the choice of materials and how the luminaire was brought to life.
Timeless beauty, sustainable design
Serenity not only stands for aesthetic elegance and technical innovation, sustainability is also a central element of this luminaire collection. The textiles designed by Aleksandra Gaca and the carefully selected high-performance materials are designed to stand the test of time - without compromising on beauty or functionality. This reduces the need for replacement parts, conserves valuable resources and protects the environment. Manufacturing in Europe not only ensures environmentally friendly processing, but also short transport routes that further minimise the ecological footprint.
We are pleased to announce that Lightnet has been awarded ISO 50001 certification. ISO 50001 is an internationally recognised standard for energy management systems, which confirms that we operate an effective energy management system. This certification demonstrates Lightnet's commitment to continuously monitor and optimise energy consumption and implement sustainable practices in all our operations.
With the ISO 50001 certification, we are improving our energy efficiency and actively contributing to environmental protection.
We would like to thank our employees and partners for their support and commitment on the way to this important certification. Together, we will continue to work on increasing our energy efficiency and implementing sustainable solutions.

Inspired by the energy and dynamics, the spectacular atmosphere, and aesthetics of the natural world, Lightnet is presenting its product innovations and sustainability initiatives at this year‘s light + building.
This year in hall 3.1, stand D50, we are placing a special focus on sustainability, a topic that is very close to our hearts. Our new film about sustainable production and our comprehensive sustainability report published for the first time at light + building underline this.
The highlights of our trade fair appearance include our new products "Kumo" and "Serenity", as well as the extensively revised product generations Caleo Evolution, Midpoint Déco and Midpoint Anti-Glare. We are also presenting further developments of proven product lines such as the Matric System 25mm, Ringo Star Acoustic and Beam Me Up Soft Edge. Our new surface collection sets new standards in terms of both colour quality and the sustainability of the materials and production methods used.
A special experience awaits you at our central meeting point on the stand - a bar that also serves as a welcome desk. The cloud formations of our new "Kumo" product range float above the bar, framed by isobaric structures made of Liquid Line light lines, which guide you into our stand with their lighting. The light installation was realised with a special Tunable White technology that enables an atmospheric light spectrum from 2200K to 10,000K. This technology, synchronised with music and controlled via DMX in time with the drum beats, creates an impressive play of light that brings our motto "Thunder & Lightning" to life. This is made possible by the latest generation of programmable DMX boards, which are also used in other Lightnet product ranges. This installation demonstrates Lightnet's extraordinary flexibility in terms of mechanical, lighting and control technology and combines these aspects to create an impressive light sculpture.
The thematically structured presentation areas around the centre of our stand, the colour scheme in natural tones and the optimised acoustics through carpets and absorber surfaces round off the trade fair experience. Our walls, largely made of graphically designed expanded metal, interact with the light and create a balance between openness and privacy, giving our free-standing exhibition stand the appearance of a modern, light-flooded building.
We are delighted to be participating again in 2024 at the world's leading trade fair for lighting and building technology, Light + Building in Frankfurt from 3.-8.3.2024.
Our international visitors can look forward to a varied experience at our stand in Hall 3.1 D50: we will present a wide range of product innovations as well as insights into our focus topics of energy efficiency and sustainability.
We are already looking forward to welcoming you in Frankfurt in March!
